Description
The traditional black suit
It’s a black suit. If you don’t have one in your wardrobe, then you need to get one. The classic black suit is the only choice for events after 6 pm, funerals and re-enactments from that scene in Reservoir Dogs. With classic Suitably quality and tailor-made for you, this is a must-have for any dapper gentleman.
Styling Guide
Shirt
The classic look with a black suit is a white shirt. This will give you a monochromatic nod that’s favoured by your favoured ice-cold Hollywood action movie star. If you plan on wearing a coloured shirt, we strongly recommend matching the shirt colour with a darker coloured tie of the same colour, I.e. If you have a blue shirt, wear a darker blue tie to match it.
Tie
Much like your shirt, the rules for black suits are a little more rigid. The classic look is a black tie but if you are wearing a coloured shirt, match up with the same coloured tie. When looking at a black tie, try to avoid going with a black tie that looks too shiny as that’s usually not a good look.
Shoes
We advise sticking with a plain black shoe such as an oxford. Any other colour may look a bit odd comparative to the austerity of the rest of the suit.
Occasion
There are certain occasions in which a black suit is a must-have. Weddings, funerals, award ceremonies and cocktail parties all spring to mind. When an event calls for a black suit or “black tie”, there’s very little that you can use to substitute it.
